Why did you choose to attend UGA?
The UGA College of Veterinary Medicine is an oustanding institution that fosters an excellent environment for learning and fellowship! There is no other place I would want to be than here and call myself a UGA bulldawg!
What is your most memorable UGA experience or memory?
The day before we started school, the College of Veterinary Medicine has a white coat ceremony to recognize all incoming freshman with a white coat symbolizing our entrance into the profession. We all lined up in alphabetical order and as we walked across the stage, the speaker will announce not only our name and hometown, but also what we plan on pursuing as future veterinarians. So as I began walking across the stage and turned to face the audience as I am presented with my white coat, I remember having one arm in, and then overhearing the speaker saying I wanted to pursue some very random and specific part of vet med that I had ZERO interest in. While I am forcing my arm in the first sleeve, I said outloud in front of my entire class and hundreds of other people, that it was in correct. He looked at me perplexed and said 'Yes it is'. So I walked up to the podium and looked at where he was reading from and directed his finger down one line from the script he was reading from and said 'HERE'. He said, oh, whoops. Meanwhile, the room is totally silent you could hear a pin drop. So how do I recover from this very awkward situation? I simply turned around and repeated the entire process again, walking up the stage, putting on my white coat, shaking all the representatives hands and proceeded to give a royal wave as I headed down the ramp to shake the Dean's hand. Fortunately, the whole place erupted in laughter and my classmates still say to this day, that little hiccup made the ceremony an even better one.
What is your favorite campus setting and why?
My favorite part of campus is sitting under the shade of the giant oak trees in front of the veterinary school.
What student organizations are you involved in?
Pathology club "PathHeads"; Christian Veterinary Fellowship; Student Ambassador; Class President
What are your career plans/aspirations?
My dream is to be an Army Veterinarian. Last year I was awarded the Health Professions Scholarship Program award and received my commissioning in May as a Second Lieutenant. Following graduation, I aim to work in small animal medicine in the US with aspirations for deployment and serve in humanitarian efforts abroad. I see myself making the US Army Veterinary Corps as a life long career and I am so excited for the adventures to come!
Where do you see yourself in five years?
Hopefully I will be deployed and living somewhere international helping in small communities.
How will you make a positive difference in the world?
I am confident that a career in the US Army Veterinary Corps is where I will make the greatest impact. My faith in Christ is the most important aspect of my life and because of the freedom and Joy that I have in God, I want everyone to experience His grace and goodness! I try to live each day by seeking the best in others and encouraging them to know who they are and the awesome treasures stored within them.
What message would you like to send to alumni and friends who support UGA financially?
I am so thankful for your extreme generosity not just because it helps financially, but through your gifts you are offer hope to many who may not have it. Your gifts tell me that I am worth supporting. So thank you!
