Planned Giving Attributes

Planned Giving Attributes

In stewarding a deferred gift donor, there is nothing of greater importance than ensuring that a donor’s recognition preferences are honored. Accordingly, this document serves to clarify the various recognition options available to a planned giving donor and summarizes the method for capturing this data in GAIL.

Recognition Preferences – The Options:

When donors complete the Statement of Future Gifts to document their deferred gift, they will automatically be enrolled as a member of the Heritage Society. However, they will have the ability to select two of the below options:

Once the donors have filled out the statement of future gifts their intentions are captured with an attribute (on the main attributes tab).

Heritage Society Publication Preferences

Approved to Publish

Donors who have selected, “The University has my permission to publish…” will receive the attribute Approved to Publish. These donors will be printed in the Heritage Society honor roll and in the planned giving honor roll of the supported unit. Donors who have selected this option may also be contacted for the opportunity to be featured in print pieces.

Note: Planned givers gift amounts should never be disclosed, without a donor permission, as stated on the statement of future gifts. Thus, planned gifts should not be used to raise a donor’s giving level into a recognition program without a donor’s knowledge.

Do Not Publish

Donors who have selected, “Please do not publish…” will receive the attribute Do Not Publish. These donors will not be printed in the Heritage Society honor roll or in the planned giving honor roll for the supported unit. Donors who have selected this option should not be contacted for the opportunity to be featured in print pieces.

Unknown

Donors who have been attributed with Unknown are donors that have never been printed in the honor roll and did not fill out a statement of future gifts; most of these donors are deceased. If we have no way of knowing a donor’s preference, they will receive this attribute.

Heritage Society Stewardship Preferences

Accepts Benefits

Donors who have selected, “I/we would be pleased…” on the statement of future gifts are given the attribute Accepts Benefits.  These donors will be regularly stewarded with Birthday Cards, Holiday Cards, Stewardship Print Pieces and receive an invitation to the President’s Club Reception. In addition, donors who accept benefits will receive a Vineyard Vines tie and/or scarf.

Declines Benefits

Donors who select, “I/we do not wish…” on the statement of future gifts do not wish to receive regular stewardship. Donors will be excluded from Birthday Cards, Holiday Cards, and Stewardship Print Pieces and will not receive an invitation to the President’s Club Reception. These donors also decline receiving a Vineyard Vines Tie and/or Scarf.
