Who is Head of Household?

When you’re data checking your final postal mail spreadsheet, you may notice that household names will format differently. These different formats are dependent on several factors. One of those factors is who is considered the head of the household.

Some titles such as The Honorable or Doctor will initiate a custom joint name format, but the head of household will continue to follow the standard hierarchy.

Mainly households are determined by affinity…

If one spouse is a UGA alumni, and the other spouse is a non-alumni, the alumni spouse will appear as head of household.

If one spouse is UGA faculty/staff, and the other spouse is not, the faculty/staff spouse will appear as head of household.

If both spouses are alum and/or faculty/staff, the husband will appear as head of household.

If both spouses are classified as donors, the husband will appear as head of household.

Even though the above mentioned are set standards in the GAIL system…

Heads of households can always be adjusted by the Records team at the request of the constituent.
