Supplying the University Health Center and UGA’s testing sites with hard-to-find supplies during the pandemic wasn’t easy. But Bill Kemper, this week’s Unsung Hero, was determined to get his job done, knowing he was helping protect his friends, his co-workers, and UGA’s students.

New Menu Items at Bolton Dining Commons  

From sizzling, flavorful stir-fry dishes to fresh, customizable salads, a variety of new menu items are available to meal plan customers at Bolton Dining Commons including:

  • Select entrées such as Korean Tofu and General Tso’s Chicken at Lemon Grass Kitchen. 
  • Cooked-to-order burgers, veggie burgers and fries at Tanyard Grill. 
  • Breakfast favorites at Sunrise Café until 2 p.m. 
  • Macaroni & cheese as well as a daily rotation of smoked meats, including Boston butt, smoked turkey, brats and pot roast at Hickory and Oak.
  • Fresh, more customizable salad and deli sections at the Corner Market. 
  • Coffee stations. 

To focus on increasing the number of fresh, hot entrees available inside Bolton, Dining Services has transitioned the Grubhub grab-and-go menu out of Bolton and encourages customers to visit the Quick Market near Creswell/Hill Community for a larger assortment of grab-and-go options. The Quick Market accepts the Faculty/Staff meal plan.

Open Enrollment Reminders

Reminder! Benefits open enrollment is going on now through 5:00 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, 2020. This is an ACTIVE enrollment year which means action will be required on your part.   

 

University Human Resources is holding open enrollment virtual open office hours for faculty and staff. Please log on by clicking on the Zoom link during the following session times, and chat private questions or speak directly with a benefits staff member.  

  • Nov. 3, 2:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. 
  • Nov. 5, 2:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Shared sick leave open enrollment will also take place during the open enrollment period from now until 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6. Employees must meet the following criteria to be eligible to join:  

  • Complete the provisional employment period.  
  • Donate a minimum of 8 hours from Oct. 21 – Nov. 6 (pro-rated based on FTE).    
  • Have a minimum of 48 hours sick leave as of Jan. 1, 2021 (pro-rated based on FTE).  

If you are already a shared leave member, you are not required to donate again. For more information, visit the Shared Leave Program website.  

Annual Leave Reminder  

Please don't forget that for faculty and staff who accrue vacation leave, the 360-hour calendar year cap for your vacation balance is still in effect. Any vacation hours over 360 hours will be removed if not utilized by Dec. 31, 2020. Although COVID-19 has restricted travel and made it more difficult to take vacation, please consider how you will utilize your leave if you are close to or over the 360-hour calendar year limit for your vacation balance. Still Time to Register for the Online Public Service & Outreach Faculty Orientation

The New Faculty Academy event Nov. 5 from 9 – 11 a.m. is an online orientation offered from Public Service and Outreach. Although the event was developed to welcome new faculty to UGA, all faculty and staff are welcome to attend to gain an appreciation for the connection between UGA’s academic excellence and rise in national rankings and its historic land-grant and sea-grant mission to serve all the people of Georgia.

2020 D.W. Brooks Lecture featuring Julie Borlaug 

Julie Borlaug is the granddaughter of American biologist, humanitarian and Nobel laureate Norman E. Borlaug. As the vice president of external relations for Inari Agriculture, she is continuing the Borlaug legacy and inspiring the next generation to end world hunger through agricultural innovation. She will deliver her lecture, "Using Innovation and Technology to End Hunger and Poverty," via Zoom at 3:30 p.m. Nov. 10. Register at dwbrooks.caes.uga.edu.
