Lazos Hispanos (“Hispanic Links”) is a community health worker/promotoras program seeking to enhance health and well-being within the Athens Latino community by providing access to healthcare and social services
With your gift today, you can support the social work happening in the Latino community in Athens, GA.
Nine local Latina women have completed 50+ hours of training and mentor-ship, and now serve as a “bridge” between their communities and service providers. Their roles include peer education, resource navigation, referrals and system-level advocacy to ensure culturally responsive programs and policies that reflect community need. In the first six months of the program alone, the promotoras supported 110 individuals and families by providing 190 referrals to healthcare (54%) and social services (46%).
Support Lazos Hispanos and the important work they are doing locally by making your gift today.
In response, an interdisciplinary research team at the University of Georgia launched Lazos Hispanos (“Hispanic Links”) in 2017 with help from the President’s Interdisciplinary Research Seed Grant. The program is based on the community health worker/promotoras de salud model, and is anchored on a collaborative network of community members, the promotoras, service providers, researchers and funders.
Give today to support Lazos Hispanos as they work to enhance the well-being of the Athens Latino Community.
