Let’s March On: Support the Redcoat Band Teaching Tower

About the Project

Known for its appearances at University of Georgia football games, the Redcoat Marching Band was founded in 1905 as a section of the UGA Military Department. What started as 20 military cadets slowly grew into the band’s current roster of over 400 students that make up “The Heartbeat of the Bulldog Nation.”

Current Scissor Lift

After much anticipation, and just in time for its 111th season, the “Finest in the Land” UGA Redcoat Band began using their new artificial turf practice field on August 13, 2016. The next step in completing the Redcoat Practice Field is the addition of a multi-tiered teaching tower. Having a permanent structure, instead of the temporary lift currently used, will allow all of the directors to view rehearsals and to provide feedback on the band’s drill and formations from a safe vantage point without interrupting class time to lower and raise the lift.

The addition of the Tower will also eliminate the annual cost to rent the temporary lift. Building this tower will also bring the Redcoat’s facilities up to par with standards among our peers at other SEC Schools – currently, we are one of only two schools still without a Teaching Tower. Our Redcoat students tirelessly enhance the UGA Game Day Experience, and deserve the best outdoor classroom and practice facility possible!

Can we count on your support to help build a teaching tower?

Building a Teaching Tower of this size will cost close to $90,000 – but we are hoping Redcoat Band Alumni and Fans will help us crowd-fund $10,000 to help jumpstart our campaign. Can we count on your support?
