While the CE+D has numerous innovations in sustainability, it is missing one of the most useful, visible, and effective – a water bottle refilling station. Water bottle refilling stations are one of the most compelling ways to get faculty, staff, and students to participate in reducing plastic waste and increasing the amount of access and use they have to the health benefits of drinking water. Long overdue, the addition of a water bottle refilling station would cap the CE+D as leader in sustainability with a strong conservation ethic.
On any given day hundreds of students, guests, faculty, and spend time in the Jackson Street Building (JSB). The College of Environment + Design offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in landscape architecture, environmental planning, and historic preservation. While these programs seem like differing fields of study, they all intersect around one common theme – conservation. Students are working diligently on landscape architecture studio projects, attending lecture classes or studying in the Owen’s Library or the Circle Gallery. Anyone who visits the JSB can witness and enjoy the sustainability practices that the College of Environment + Design promotes.
The College of Environment + Design is a sustainable and forward-thinking college, housed in a LEED certified building on UGA’s north campus. As the physical embodiment of the College of Environment + Design’s academic and public mission, the Jackson Street Building and its occupants would benefit immensely from the addition of a water bottle refilling station. This addition could be used as not only an additional token of our commitment to sustainability but also as a rallying point to further the CE+D’s pursuit to innovate!
We want to practice what we preach and appreciate any support that you could give as we pursue this much-needed addition!
