Government Relations

Government Relations

The Office of Government Relations serves as chief liaison between the University and federal, state and local government offices and legislative bodies.

The Office is responsible for development and implementation of strategies and programs to attain public funding goals, and to foster positive and effective ongoing relationships with elected officials and executive branch leaders.

Community Relations

The Community Relations Director links the University of Georgia to the community by engaging in numerous outreach efforts including those with:

  • Athens-Clarke County Mayor, Commissioners and other representatives

  • Chamber of Commerce and other area businesses

  • Neighborhood associations

  • Area nonprofit organizations

State Relations

The Director of State Relations serves as the primary liaison between the University of Georgia and the legislative and executive branches of Georgia government, including the Georgia General Assembly, Office of the Governor, the University System of Georgia, and other relevant units of state government. The State Relations team also works closely with other universities and higher education groups in Georgia.

Federal Relations

The Federal Relations Director manages and coordinates the interaction between UGA and its divisions and the legislative and executive branches of the federal government.

The daily responsibilities of the Director are chiefly concentrated within three overarching duties: to work closely with the Georgia Congressional delegation on legislation and federal policies which help advance the University's strategic goals; to expand the University's visibility among Executive Branch officials, as well as to identify, modify and create opportunities to increase federal agency support; and, to effectively address federal regulatory policies which would impact operations at the University.
