College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences students have the opportunity to spend spring break traveling and exploring the vast industry that is Georgia Agriculture. This five-day tour allows students to visit and meet industry professional engaged in a variety of Georgia commodities.
About the Georgia Agricultural Tour
CAES students tour a variety of agricultural facilities across Georgia during spring break. From peaches and peanuts to poultry and pork, the Georgia Agriculture Tour provides an opportunity for students to learn about the people and products that comprise Georgia’s leading industry. Several faculty and staff members accompany the students on the trip. Students also meet weekly during the spring semester prior to the tour to learn about the agricultural industries they will visit.
Why the Project Matters
The goal is to limit financial barriers for the students who embark on the Georgia Agriculture Tour. We want students to have access to a first-hand look at the broad variety of agriculture that thrives in our state without worrying about a high cost of participating. Private donations help off-set the travel expenses paid by students.
Donations totaling $5,000 will help off-set the overall cost of the tour including group meals, lodging and transportation. Gifts of all sizes will help us reach the goal of making the Georgia Agriculture Tour possible for CAES students.
CAES Alumni Association members champion this fundraising project and encourage financial support from alumni, parents and friends.
- $15 = student’s evening meal
- $50 = student’s transportation cost
- $150 = student’s lodging for week
- $500 = group meal for 34 students and 4 faculty/staff
I believe learning outside of the classroom is essential. Education does not have to be all books and paper. What made this trip most memorable to me was one of our group dinners. I had no idea there would be multiple onion farmers there to share stories, lessons, and tell us about themselves and their career. I was moved by the hard work and passion these men have for their career, and it really made me feel like agriculture is the right field for me.
