As the state of Georgia’s most comprehensive research institution, the University of Georgia is committed to research that changes lives. Undergraduate research plays a key role in the experiential learning opportunities offered at the University of Georgia, and at the heart of those efforts is the Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities (CURO). CURO is housed in the Morehead Honors College, and we are proud to be able to serve all undergraduates at UGA through CURO no matter their major or affiliation with the Honors College.

The CURO Symposium is a two-day event that highlights exceptional undergraduate research at the University of Georgia. This year’s CURO Symposium featured 498 undergraduates—288 (58%) were non-Honors and 206 (42%) were Honors students—communicating their substantial research accomplishments. Not only do these students gain invaluable experience sharing their work, but they also gain confidence as presenters. The 2023 presenters represented 92 different majors from 15 schools and colleges and conducted research with 245 faculty members from 69 departments in 17 colleges, schools, and divisions.

In addition to the Symposium, CURO funds:

  • A semester-long CURO Research Award- $1,000 to offset students’ living expenses so that they may not need to get a part-time job in addition to their research
  • Travel and Attendance at Professional Conferences in the U.S.- CURO gives up to $1,500 so that an undergraduate can present their research and increase their knowledge and networking opportunities
  • The CURO Summer Research Fellowship– $3,000 for an intensive summer-long research program

Undergraduate research exists so our students can realize their goals, explore possibilities, and change lives.  We reach close to 600 students per year through funding opportunities, and we aim to reach 100 more. We would love to partner with you to bring undergraduate research to even more students at the University of Georgia.
