April ’24 DAR Star: Lindsay Carter-Tidwell
We work with absolutely incredible people—and we all have varied interests and experiences, which adds to the unique makeup of the University of Georgia. We’ll be regularly spotlighting a few rock stars from around the division so that even if you don’t cross paths with them in the break room or Zoom with them on a weekly basis, you can get to know colleagues who can enhance your work life and productivity.
Without further ado, please enjoy our Q&A with Lindsay Carter-Tidwell …
Name: Lindsay Carter-Tidwell
Title: Senior Director of Development
- In my role at the Office of Principal Gifts, I identify and build relationships with alumni and friends who have an interest in partnering with the university to make a meaningful and significant impact at the principal gift level ($1 million). Additionally, I support campus colleagues and serve as a resource to help advance philanthropic partnerships with the university’s strongest prospects and donors.
Where can we find you?
- Online: ude.agu@ditl
- On Campus: I work remotely.
- At Home: Sumter, South Carolina
Time in DAR: Roughly 8 years
Where did you grow up: Bowman, South Carolina (a very rural southern town where my grandad owned a lumber company)
What work project are you most proud of participating in? I always find the greatest joy in helping families accomplish something meaningful. One of my favorite experiences has involved helping a donor surprise his wife by creating 2 Georgia Commitment Scholarships in her name to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary. The scholarship gave preference to the students from the area in which she was born and raised. He plans to fund two additional scholarships in her name so that there will ultimately be a cohort of 4 scholars. We surprised her at their 60th anniversary dinner by presenting her with a plaque and framed letter from President Morehead.
What is your favorite reason for working for UGA/DAR? I love being able to support donors and their families in designing a philanthropic plan that aligns with their overall philanthropic goals and helps create a meaningful legacy.
What is your favorite spot in Athens to grab lunch? I love Marti’s at Midday’s chicken salad and mint tea!
Tell us about your family … I have two wonderful children, Carter and Ann Frances. Carter is 10 years old, and loves all things sports. He is currently playing basketball for a traveling AAU team. My daughter, Ann Frances, is 9 and is on a competitive cheer team that just won Grand Nationals at Myrtle Beach. She is also on a traveling AAU basketball team. We also have two sweet Boston terrier dogs named Hercules and Meg (all of our pets have been named after characters from Disney movies).
On a typical Saturday evening, you can find me … Attending a sporting event with my children (whether a cheer competition or AAU basketball game)
No. 1 tip for someone just joining DAR: Welcome to DAR! We are blessed to work for a great institution with loyal alumni and friends and a strong culture of collaboration among colleagues. When I first joined DAR, I relied heavily on the institutional knowledge of colleagues to help guide me through UGA policies and procedures and to show me the ropes. Never hesitate to reach out to me, or any other member of the DAR team, if I/we can be helpful in any way.
Outside of work, I’m passionate about … With two active children, I have very few hobbies outside of taking them to various activities (which is what I am most passionate about). I love being a mom and seeing my two children thrive doing the things they love! This is what makes me most happy in life. However, when I do have a free minute – I love to read crime fiction books (Patterson being my author of choice) and sneak in a little Netflix.
Favorite book or podcast: Up and Vanished (I was so intrigued by this podcast that helped solve the mystery of Tara Grinstead’s disappearance.)
Lately, I’ve been watching … Not much on tv because I’m always on the go with my two children!
Something you might not know about me is … I worked with the Marketing and Feature Animation Teams at Walt Disney World before attending Law School at Florida State and then ultimately transitioning to a career in development.
My dream vacation (cost and time aside) is to visit … Bora Bora, French Polynesia (staying in a bungalow above the water)
We hope you learned something new about Lindsay. We are lucky to have her on our DAR team! Feel free to reach out to her if you have questions about principal gifts or want to discuss the best Disney films.
