We work with absolutely incredible people—and we all have varied interests and experiences, which adds to the unique makeup of the University of Georgia. We’ll be regularly spotlighting a few rock stars from around the division so that even if you don’t cross paths with them in the break room or Zoom with them on a weekly basis, you can get to know colleagues who can enhance your work life and productivity.

Without further ado, please enjoy our Q&A with Denise Baughman …

Name: Denise Baughman

Title: Expenditure Control Specialist, UGA Foundation

  • As expenditure control specialist, I review check requests to ensure that policy and procedures are followed. I also report fringe benefits, pay the monthly sales/use tax for the Foundation, and reconcile and make the UGA Grant payment.
  • What might people not know about your job? There is a lot of information to know in my job. The majority of my work is done in FAME and you definitely have to be able to multitask in this role!

Time in DAR: 11 years

What is your favorite reason for working for UGA/DAR? The people I have gotten to know, and walking on my lunch hour with my work best friends!

Where did you grow up: Baltimore, Maryland

What is your favorite spot in Athens to grab lunch? I love the Belgian fries at Trappeze!

Tell us about your family … I have been married almost 35 years and we have 9 children (and yes, they are all our children we’ve had together lol). We have two grandchildren with one on the way, and three dogs and four cats.

On a typical Saturday evening, you can find me … spending time with our family and planning our next adventure.

Outside of work, I’m passionate about … my family and my church.

Favorite book or podcast: There are too many to choose from; I love reading!

Lately I’ve been watching… The Middle … so funny!

Something you may not know about me is … I am a twin and I had a set of twins (it does not skip a generation lol). In addition, I am a pastor’s wife; my husband is the pastor at Victory Baptist Church.

My dream vacation (cost and time aside) is to visit … The Maldives.
